Vacancies in Hampshire Guitar Orchestra - for people like you

If you're a classical guitarist, you could join our team and play in our forthcoming concerts!

hago in rehearsal

hago in rehearsal - we can find a space for you as well!

"What's it like to play in a guitar orchestra?"

Well, come to a rehearsal - there's no obligation.
Hear our big sound - it's exciting & fulfilling; discover why people travel from Surrey, Sussex & N Hants to be in hago!
We have a lot of fun too, but we always work hard to make the finest music - not just notes - that we can.

"But it's a big commitment..."

Once you're up to speed with our concert programme, our repertoire only changes at a modest pace. We wouldn't have so many players here from the day we started if it was too much to handle! And we always ease new players in gently. Come and see!

"Will I fit in?"

We're a great team and we welcome players who enjoy the way we work - good humour and attention to detail.

We need confident players with a well-developed apoyando, happy to play up the neck. Our music isn't difficult, but those below Grade 5 are unlikely to have relaxed & sensitive phrasing that we need. Our music is in many parts - some lines are straightforward, some give really good players a workout! We'll find you a line that suits your playing.

"I don't know anything about these other sizes of guitar you play"

That's fine - most of our guitars are standard guitars - look in the photo above...

"Who runs it?"

Derek Hasted - potted biography here - has a master's degree, a teaching diploma and a CRB enhanced disclosure check.

All the facts The inside story

Commitment

A termly fee of £35-40 covers our fortnightly rehearsals. We aim for 100% attendance, but that's our strength - a reliable team!

We play regular concerts - many for charities. You provide your own Concert Dress but we help with the red!

Where and when?

We rehearse at Lovedean Village Hall on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays each month in term time from 7:25 till 10pm.

How it works

Our aim is to make great music - we work hard in rehearsal and at home to create the hago sound. You'll need a classical guitar with good intonation and projection, but your musical maturity matters more than the price of your guitar!

Part & partner

Everyone in hago shares their line with at least one partner - our buddy system gives us a robust and confident sound. Buddies sometimes meet between rehearsals to share fingerings and get a tight sound.
