We've welcomed some new faces into hago in the past three months and we've taken time to introduce half a dozen new pieces into our play list. We've taken time away from what was becoming a manic concert schedule and we're just starting to book events up again now.
We're continuing to try to mix Concerts, charity fund-raising and outreach, and on December 2nd we're off to one of Portsmouth's largest and most modern sheltered schemes - dozens of self-contained flats for those who senior citizens who welcome the chance to live in a small complex with wardens on duty. We're dusting off our large Christmas repertoire as we speak, and we've some new Christmas pieces too.
On December 16th we play at Queen Alexandra Hospital in aid of The Rocky Appeal - look out for us there between 7pm and 8pm.
Some way off, but we're already starting to plan another Concert in Cambridge, probably on June 11th, with our good friends and musical sparring partners the Cambridge Guitar Orchestra - CGO
We've got a vacancy right now for someone Grade 7+ who's game to become one of our alto players. Derek, our Musical Director, is playing alto at the moment, and is dearly longing to get back out the front to wield his stick. It's probably his hormones acting up again. If you or anyone you know fancies trying the alto - after all, we even provide the instrument - get in touch by replying to this mail. As you can see we're looking for a player with a fair bit of experience, but the rewards are many and quite unique. If you're nearer Grade 4, we've got other lines we're happy to see strengthened too, on either classical or one of our two sorts of bass instrument.
If you play a bit of guitar but you don't think you have the nimble fingers to make a go of hago, don't forget our Musical Director's informal ensemble workshop for novice and intermediate adult guitarists - classical or acoustic guitar, reading from normal musical notation. And check out Workshop's NEW website - pick up a free piece of music there too. Workshop are raising money for The Portsmouth and District Branch of The Alzheimer's Society on December 9th - visit www.guitar-workshop.org.uk/concerts for booking information.
