A year in hago...

2004 has been an incredibly adrenaline-fuelled year for hago. We've been sorry to see four of our players move on, but we've been delighted to welcome another four.

2004 began with our joint concert in Chichester, featuring West Sussex Guitar Club and Amanda Cook.

Chilly fingers was the order of the day as we played at the opening of the Portsmouth Music Festival in February, and in St Thomas Church in March.

In June we welcomed local guitarists to our Open Rehearsal - some just dropped in, some subsequently came along to audition and some were encouraged to come along to our Musical Director's Ensemble Workshop (recently their concert raised almost £700 for the Alzheimer's Society!).

In July we invited Cambridge Guitar Orchestra to share a concert with us, and we in turn journeyed to Bath to play at the International Guitar Festival.

An acre (OK, we exaggerate) of new music appeared over the summer and several of these were up to performance standard in time for our visit to Hale Court Fratton to play carols for the "inmates" at the sheltered housing - what a really joyous and happy time that was - and carols again to support The Rocky Appeal at QA Hospital.

In conjunction with our Musical Director's Guitar Workshop, we are pleased to announce that our total raised for charity in 2004 is £1694.14

Those of you who came and supported our concerts have our deepest thanks that you've made this possible.

Over the break

Over Christmas we'll be spring-cleaning (pardon the anachronism) the hago website. You might find you get the occasional "page not found" error while it's in pieces, so do go to the homepage at www.hago.org.uk and try again, in case we were tinkering as you browsed.

Coming soon

2005 looks to be every bit as exciting as 2004. Very little is set in concrete yet, but we have possible concerts in April, May and June, and our next newsletter may well be able to ink-in the pencilling-in. And you can be sure that we'll be announcing some Christmas Carol specials nearer the time - usually we are sorting out Christmas music in the heat of August!

Right now, we have one last job to do, and that is to send you our very best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
