This is a web-archive of the Newsletter we emailed to our subscribers in May 2006
|
This free newsletter is a small-scale production to keep you in touch with what's happening in hago - we always include links into our main website where you can read more, see photos and explore still further, so do click when you see a link...
This is our first newsletter in Rich Text - we decided it was time to give it a go - hope you can read it with no problems.
Welcome to the many people who have subscribed since last issue - here's where you find out what we're up to.
Now's the time to get your diaries out and come & see us!
On May 13th, we head back to Chichester and we not only team up with West Sussex Guitar Club, but one of the UK's finest young professionals, Amanda Cook, is coming to play a set too.
Book in advance and save money - on-line booking closes in a week's time!
On June 10th, We're playing in Alto for Project Mali, a charity that hopes to send some Hampshire young adults out to Mali this summer to help with the construction of Centre Gedeon. Read more about the concert and the appeal at www.hago.org.uk/2006/06/ - if you live near Alton or have relatives there, you know what to do!
Since our last newsletter, we've been invited to play at the first ever Waterlooville Music Festival. The Church there is keen to promote live music and foster a warm community spirit. There are all sorts of soloists and ensembles playing - we've placed a programme at www.hago.org.uk/2006/wmf.html We'd love to see you, and we'd love you to support some of the other excellent music too!
On July 8th, we return to Portsmouth with our good friends Cambridge Guitar Orchestra for our annual home-and-away shared concert. Come and hear 5 different sorts of classical guitar! Details at www.hago.org.uk/2006/07/ - online ticket bookings now open
Now then, listen up! If you play guitar and live local to us, May 25th is an evening not to be missed. Free music, free hints and tips, even free food and drink as hago runs its second Open Rehearsal. If you are Grade 3+ in Classical Guitar, come and try our 4 sizes of guitar and join in with us.
We've a little "Sales and Wants" page now - there's a chance to own a guitar that's been played at the UK's Guitar Orchestra competition that we won in 2003!
We've also written a little technique article about "Damping" - something very important in ensemble
We have an alto just looking for a Grade 7+ player to help grow our ranks further - www.hago.org.uk/join
The amount we've raised for local charities has reached £25,500 - expect it to rise again soon!
As a non-profit making orchestra, many of whose concerts are for charity, we are always on the look-out for chances to raise public awareness of what we do, preferably at no cost, of course. If you are aware of opportunities to publicise what we do, please reply to this newsletter and send us details - thanks!
