ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER

This free newsletter is a small-scale production to keep you in touch with what's happening in hago - we always include links into our main website where you can read more, see photos and explore still further, so do click when you see a link...
Welcome to the many people who have subscribed since last issue - here's where you find out what we're up to.
It's just about the longest day of the year, so we wish you fine weather and glorious sunshine.
(For our readers in the southern hemisphere - you're over the worst - enjoy the prospect of spring!)

CONCERT NEWS

We've had a busy time! Since the last newsletter, we've played at three concerts.

On May 13th we played at the gorgeous St Paul's Church in Chichester, in a concert that opened with West Sussex Guitar Club, followed by one of the UK's finest young professionals, Amanda Cook

On June 10th, we drove to Alton, to raise funds for Project Mail, a charity that hopes to send some Hampshire young adults out to Mali this summer to help with the construction of Centre Gedeon. Read more about the concert and the appeal at www.hago.org.uk/2006/06/ - we raised nearly £1000, and it was so hot in the auditorium we just had to sit in the garden of a very lovely pub on the outskirts of Alton, simply to cool down afterwards.

Just 3 days later, we played at the first ever Waterlooville Music Festival - what a lovely audience - the Church was packed and it's the first time ever that we got a "WHOOOOP!" at the end of one of our pieces... Read more at www.hago.org.uk/2006/06/wmf.html - see what else was on, in this busy and innovative new event.

LAST CHANCE TO HEAR US THIS SUMMER

On July 8th, we return to Portsmouth with our good friends Cambridge Guitar Orchestra for our annual home-and-away shared concert. Come and hear 5 different sorts of classical guitar! Details at www.hago.org.uk/2006/07/ - online ticket bookings now open - if you can make it, please come along - we want to give CGO, one of the UK's finest, the biggest audience they've ever had. We did that in 2002, so we have a record to beat! Turn up on the door - £7, kids £5. Better still, book online and save money

We'd be delighted to see you, and if you enjoy our new repertoire as much as the audiences in our previous concerts... well, come along and see what we mean!

IN THE AUTUMN

We have a possible concert in September, a definite concert in October, and our traditional Rowans Rehearsital in late November - more news nearer the time

WEBSITE NEWS

Our ISP let us down a bit when he changed some settings that caused Google to throw most of the hago website out of its index. We've found a way to undo the damage, and the hago website is just starting to reappear in Google's index.

RECRUITMENT NEWS

We have an alto just looking for a Grade 7+ player to help grow our ranks further - www.hago.org.uk/join

In fact, now's a darn fine time to ask about joining, as the summer is a concert-free time to learn our repertoire - we're especially interested in Grade 7 and up, but Grade 4s are welcome too - all you need is to be free on a Thursday evening, a few Saturday evenings a year, and want to really be part of something that mixes hard work with huge amounts of exhilaration and fun.

CHARITY NEWS

The amount we've raised for local charities has reached £26,500 - thank you if you helped us in our outreach and charitable works

PUBLICITY

As a non-profit making orchestra, many of whose concerts are for charity, we are always on the look-out for chances to raise public awareness of what we do, preferably at no cost, of course. If you are aware of opportunities to publicise what we do, please reply to this newsletter and send us details - thanks!
