This is a web-archive of the Newsletter we emailed to our subscribers in January 2009
|
This free newsletter is a small-scale production to keep you in touch with what's happening in hago - we always include links into our website where you can read
more, see photos and explore still further, so do click when you see a link...
Welcome to the many people who have subscribed since last issue. We're running at well over 100 subscribers now - and you're all very welcome :-)
Yes, it's a bit late, but we mean it every bit as much, despite yesterday's news that the UK is officially in recession. Indeed, every indication is that charity concerts are actually doing well
right now - it's a value-for-money evening out, it's a lot of fun, and it really helps those organisations that are local to YOU...
This is just a short newsletter with 3 important bits of news.
Firstly, our MD's Christmas present to us was a boxed set (OK, we exaggerate - there was no box) of 3 new pieces, and if you love them just half as much as we do, you'll still love 'em to bits. Three different styles - classical haunting melody, tear-jerking love song and exciting film score. Having sanded down all the lumps and bumps at our first rehearsal, we have to fill the holes next time and then apply the polish, so they will be coming out for you to enjoy in our April concerts.
Some of you have already heard that our MD Derek has broken his right arm. This wasn't on our plan of ways to improve in 2009, especially as he's vital in our 3 new pieces which we so much enjoyed playing in the first rehearsal of 2009. It's an upper arm fracture, so it's not in plaster; playing isn't an option. Eating soup left-handed isn't going so well either...
But.... we have a buddy system hago - every player has a buddy or two, and Derek's buddies will play his parts, as it were, at our Marlborough concert on Feb 7th - check our concerts page for booking details. It'll be a cracking start (pardon the arm joke!) to our 2009 season, come if you can. Derek will be there doing the MC bit and trying to get lots of sympathy from the audience! All monies raised go to the Riverbank Arts project - we're proud to be invited over there to support this arts venture.
There's a second concert to the west of us on February 28th at Hythe, on the outskirts of the New Forest again, check our concerts page for booking details. This is in aid of their building project - the building is complete and they're clearing off the loan. It's a super community venue - come and see!
Then again, if you're a local player interested in joining what is arguably the guitar ensemble with more styles and smiles than most, mail Derek and he'll type you a one-handed reply with more info. It's a great time to leap on board, especially if your New Year's Resolution was to do more with guitar in 2009 - come and meet the team!
Don't leave it a moment longer, take the plunge (but please return it when done)
It's business as usual here in HAGO :-)
With best wishes from everyone in hago!
