About Lovedean Village Hall
hago rehearsals take place at Lovedean Village Hall, off the A3 London Road a mile north of Cowplain and close to the A3M motorway.
Our rehearsals start at 7:25 and finish at about 10pm. The front door of the Small Hall is unlocked until 7:30. After 7:30 we resort to the time-honoured "tap on the window".
Travel directions
Cowplain, near Havant, is an easy journey by car from Southampton, Portsmouth, Chichester, Petersfield and Emsworth - indeed there's easy access from virtually anywhere in South East Hampshire and West Sussex. Which is good, because we have players from virtually everywhere in South East Hampshire and West Sussex, and beyond.

From outside the area...
- From the North, take the A3M southbound and at junction 2, take the sliproad and then turn right to Horndean. There is a supermarket on your right - go straight across its access roundabout. At the next roundabout turn left (the first with a left turn) - signed Waterlooville. Now follow "From the North"
- From all other directions, take the A27/M27 and then the A3M northbound. At junction 2, turn left. There is a supermarket on your right - go straight across its access roundabout. At the next roundabout turn left (the first with a left turn) - signed Waterlooville. Now follow "From the North"
Locally
- From the North - take the old A3 through Horndean and head south (signed Waterlooville and Portsmouth), to the top of the map here. At Lovedean Lane (signed "Lovedean") turn right and continue as below.
- From all other directions - head for Waterlooville turn north up the old A3. Continue through Cowplain and turn left at the sign to Lovedean (Lovedean Lane).
Final step
- Follow Lovedean Lane down a slight slope. The road bears right past the Green Dragon pub. Continue on for 800m - the Hall is on the right after Yoells Lane. Enter the car-park by the second (furthermost) entrance, and leave by other gate.
Accessibility
There is plenty of free parking to the front and side of the Hall, all within the fenced grounds of the Village Hall, and there is a ramp to the Hall. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet in the Main Hall, and the Main Hall is usually unlocked and in use by another group when we rehearse.
Why Lovedean Village Hall?
We first moved here in the Autumn of 2005 while St John's Church Hall - our rehearsal venue since our founding meeting - was being redecorated. We returned to Lovedean in the Summer of 2006, when more disruption and a price hike back at Purbrook made us realise that Lovedean Village Hall, with its adjacent car park and double glazing, is a much more cost-effective and homely venue.
Here's a photo of some of hago at the Birdman Rehearsal in late August 2006. The room is ideal for sitting in a circle as we are here, or in the curved rows we adopt when we're playing in concert.
Is the empty chair indicative of an unexpected absentee? Not at all - this picture didn't take itself! But we can always find an empty seat if you want to join hago...
