Alton Maltings Centre

About the Alton Maltings Centre

This recently restored building was indeed once used in the beer-making process. Built in about 1850, it saw life as a maltings until about 1970 when it was stripped out and converted to offices and warehousing.

The building fell derelict in the 1990s, and was purchased with the vision of making it central to the community life in Alton. Restoration started in 2004, and by late 2005, the centre was open and home to concerts, meetings, conferences and to the visitors who drop into its café.

Centennial Room, AMC

The venue has a 400 seat auditorium, and the more cosy and intimate Centennial Room (pictured right), which transforms, courtesy of staging, into a lovely and atmospheric concert venue.

The Centennial Room has been beautifully restored and seats 200. Despite its name, the only 100-year-old artefacts still remaining are likely to be hago's Musical Director's jokes.
