About St Agatha's Church Portsmouth
This is an architectural gem. A plain brick exterior, originally designed to fit discreetly amongst rows of brick terraced houses in old Portsea, conceals an apse (below) which is both intricate and overpoweringly large.
St Agathas Church survived the brutal bombing of World War II that flattened the surrounding houses, and the Church is now adjacent to one of the arterial roads into Portsmouth, though the Church interior is calm and still.
St Agatha's Church has a capacity of several hundred, all with excellent visibility - no pillars in the way! The acoustic is nothing less than superb for classical guitar.
Accessibility
The Church has level access for wheelchairs. Please note that there are currently no disabled toilets.
Travel directions
Arriving by train
Alight at Portsmouth & Southsea station. Turn right out of the station entrance to head North.
The Church is a pleasant ten minute walk through the pedestrianised shopping centre - use the map here
Arriving by car
At the M275 junction, take the Portsmouth Motorway.
Shortly after the flyover, the road terminates at a roundabout. Go straight across.
At the next roundabout, turn right (exercise care - there are traffic lights on the roundabout).
After 100 yards there is a mini-roundabout. Turn left for the Church, and right for the surface car-park.
